About Ventura County Public Works Agency

The Public Works Agency (originally called the Public Works Department) was created over fifty years ago at a time when the County was beginning to transition from primarily an agricultural and ranching dominated region to a more urbanized environment with increased emphasis on industry diversity and population growth. As the rural lands were transformed into urbanized areas to accommodate the influx of people, the department also grew in response to the increasing infrastructure needs for flood protection, roads, and water and sanitation facilities.

Today, we continue to proudly provide those services, as well as other important and mandated functions that have been enacted over the years in response to community values and priorities, such as environmental and resource protection activities in stormwater quality, groundwater replenishment and solid waste diversion.
